ENVIRONMENTAL POLICY

1. INTRODUCTION

APT Apprenticeships (APT) which is a trading name of APT Health and Safety Training Solutions Ltd recognises the need for sustainable development and continually aims to improve the environmental effect of its activities. To achieve this we will: –

Comply with environmental legislation, co-operating fully with relevant statutory bodies. In addition, the company will endeavour where it is reasonably practicable to reduce pollution beyond what is reasonably required.

Recognise environmental issues as a fundamental of business strategy to be represented by a director at board level.

Assign management responsibility for the environment in all areas of the site and ensure that all employees are aware of their individual responsibilities for acting in accordance with the policy, while providing sufficient information & training to encourage individuals to contribute effectively.

Support improvements in environmental awareness and performance of its suppliers, contractors and customers.

Continuously improve performance in waste management systems in order to reduce the quantity of waste generated in production processes and implement systems for effective recycling of waste which remains.

Minimise the use of energy, materials, water and other natural resources by increasing efficiency of use.

Balance the requirements of the company’s business aims with the need to be an environmentally friendly neighbour within the local community.

Co-operate with: –

  • The communities in which we operate.
  • The government, regulatory bodies and other interested parties with the shared vision of being a good and trusted neighbour.

2. STRUCTURE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Directors of APT are responsible for establishing environmental performances, standards and systems for the business in accordance with the environmental policy.

The Directors, through their functional management structure is responsible for establishing, implementing and monitoring environmental policy and standards with APT consistent with local laws and the policies and standards.

All employees are required to co-operate with management in the implementation of company policies and are expected to be familiar with the companies’ environmental policy.

APT’s responsibilities, as part of the effort to avoid pollution, involve collaboration with the authorities to obtain environmental approval of their facilities and processes.

APT ensure that initiatives are taken to minimise water and energy consumption and to introduce cleaner technology to our business. The company strives to limit noise and other negative impacts in the working environment to the greatest extent possible.

The organisations environmental consciousness is reflected in its products and integrated quality, health and safety and environmental management systems, offering good health, safety and welfare for all employees.

3. OBJECTIVES

APT recognise environmental management as amongst the highest corporate priorities and as a key determinant to sustainable development and seeks to establish policies, programs and practices for conducting operations in an environmentally sound manner. It is an essential element of management in all its functions to integrate these policies, programs and practices fully in to the business.

4. ARRANGEMENTS

1. MAINTAINING PROGRESS

APT is required to establish and maintain an environmental improvement plan which incorporates measures to ensure progress towards the objectives. APT will maintain and report detailed energy usage, waste and emissions data as far as is reasonably practicable. In addition, each site is required to audit environmental performance and to report regularly on its achievements in other key areas:

  • Compliance with legislation
  • Progress with improvement plans
  • Complaints received
  • Operational learning experiences

2. PROGRAM

The Directors will prepare annually an environmental improvement program, which should include plans in each of the following areas:

  • Companies objectives
  • Audit program
  • Training needs
  • Review of resources to support the program

3. PROVISION OF INFORMATION, INSTRUCTION AND TRAINING

APT will continue to improve on methods for supplying information, instruction and training to motivate employees to conduct their activities in an environmentally responsible manner. Concise record keeping provision should be made as is required in companies Quality Management policy.

4. OPENNESS TO CONCERNS

APT observes openness and dialogue with employees and the public on environmental issues.

5. PRODUCTS AND SERVICES

Recycling and recovery considerations are important aspects of environmental protection program. Emphasis is put on providing and developing products and services that have no undue adverse environmental impact and are safe in their intended use.

6. OPERATIONS AND FACILITIES

Design and operation and the way activities are conducted must take into consideration the efficient use of energy and materials and responsible disposal of waste.

7. ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT ASSESSMENT

APT will always assess the environmental impact before starting new activities or projects.

5. EMERGENCIES

The organisation is prepared for emergencies, particularly where significant hazards may exist, by developing and maintaining plans for such emergencies.

6. ADVICE TO CUSTOMERS

Advice will be given to customers and where relevant, education in the safe use, transportation, storage and disposal of products supplied.

7. INFORMATION

APT are signed up to alerts from the Environmental Agency; this will keep APT up to date with current legislation and changes to practices.
